Journalism
Narrative Research Reporting  & Project Documentation

I help clients to communicate research or document their projects in engaging and accessible language, using narrative journalistic and creative writing techniques. Narrative reporting creates compelling and emotionally connected experiences for readers, with the potential to reach much wider audiences than formal reporting or standard academic outputs.

As an example, in 2014 I was commissioned by the University of Western Sydney to produce 12 journalistic profile pieces on exceptional young international ‘digital champions’, for inclusion in a report titled Children’s Rights in the Digital Age: A Download from Around the World. Focusing on children and young adults themselves – both their achievements and the issues they face – provided a direct connection to the report’s research findings. Presented to the UN Committee for the Rights of the Child, the report was so well received that it has since been republished by UNESCO/UNICEF and distributed widely around the world.

Arts Writing
Features, Copywriting, Project Proposals & More

With over 20 years’ industry experience as both a writer and editor, I’m expert in helping artists, arts companies and presenters communicate about their work.

From 2008 to 2018 I was a regular journalist for Australia’s foremost critical experimental arts magazine, RealTime. My reviews, interviews, feature articles and critical writings have also been commissioned by Art Monthly Australia, the Melbourne and Adelaide Festivals, Arts House (City of Melbourne) and the Barbican Centre (UK), among others. In 2013 I was a Blogger in Residence for the 19th International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) in Sydney, contributing daily reports over two weeks; and in 2014 travelled as an observer/writer to the Asian Producers Platform Camp in Seoul, Korea.

I have written countless feature articles and artist profiles, catalogue essays, house program essays, and artist statements. In 2007 I co-wrote Melbourne’s successful UNESCO City of Literature bid. Other proposal writing credits include successful Australia Council and Creative Victoria grants.
